I returned two items to amazon.ca and newegg.ca at the same time. And their processing time is vastly different.
The items are a CPU for Amazon, brand new unopened. And a motherboard from Newegg, opened and tried, incompatible.
I’m amazon prime, and Newegg prime as well.
Amazon Timeline:
- Feb 5th, 8 pm, return initiated, label created
- Feb 7th 9 am, item left at UPS.
- Feb 7th 10:50 am, received email from Amazon, item refunded
- Feb 7th at night, refund received at credit card
- Feb 8th at noon, item received at the destination, per tracking info.
Newegg timeline:
- Feb 3rd, return initiated, label created
- Feb 7th 9 am, item left at UPS.
- Feb 8th at noon, item received at the destination, per tracking info.
- Feb 14th at noon, received email from newegg: item was successfully delivered to warehouse. Subject:[Newegg.ca – Return Received]
- Half an hour later, received email from newegg: return has been posted. Subject: [Newegg.ca – Return approved]
- At night, email from Newegg: “invoice and receipt for recent order”. Subject: [Newegg.ca – Invoice]
- Feb 15th, email “completed processing refund, will receive in 3-5 biz days” [Newegg.ca – Refund]
- Feb 16th at night, refund appears on credit card.
Overall, the process takes ~7-8 biz days for new egg (starting from the item sent out), compared to ~1 hour for Amazon. One data point for your and future me’s reference.
